 1.   Make Everything Digital

This will help your business tremendously! If you are on the go with your business and always have your phone on you, this will be especially helpful for you.  Link your appointment calendar that’s on your website to give you text message alerts to let you know when you have new appointments, let your clients know that you are available via e-mail, and make client forms digital and “file” them in a tablet or to your computer.

 2.   Make A Lot of To-Do Lists

Need to organize those drawers of paper work and pens you have all over the place?  Need to catch up on the latest techniques and research for your field?  Want to check in with some clients that you haven’t from in a while?  Make a to-do list of all the things you need to catch up on, and prioritize them.  There are apps on all the smart phones now that can help with this, and the iPhone even comes with it’s own To-Do list called “Reminder”.  And if it helps you more to do it the old fashioned, pen-to-paper kind of way, by all means, please do it!  Whatever you feel most comfortable with.

4 Ways to Get More Fans on Your Business Facebook Page

In the beginning of setting up your business Facebook page, it can be a little slow and discouraging when trying to get it started.  Here are some ways to get the ball rolling on increasing you fanbase. 

1.)   Suggest to Your Friends

This should be your first step when you make your Facebook page.  If you didn’t, don’t worry, you can do it now.  In your Facebook’s admin panel, there will be a little box on the right that says, “Invite Friends” on it.  It should come up with a list that shows your friends.  Click on the “invite” button to invite your friend to like your page.  This helps, because when your friend “likes” your page, it will appear in their friend’s feed, giving your business page more exposure.

2.)   Put a “Like Us” Box Up

You’ve probably seen this before.  On a business’s website, they will have a little box that has the Facebook thumbs-up symbol, and says, “Like Us on Facebook!”  Add one of these to your business’ website and/or blog.   This will attract the customers you have already to become a fan on your Facebook.  You might even want to ask them to like your Facebook page in person. 

3.)   Interact with Users You Already Have

Produce great content, and post it to your Facebook page.  Ask your fans questions, and try to get them involved.  The more responses and replies you get the more exposure to other people’s newsfeed you get.  Ultimately, this means more possible fans.

4.)   Pay for Them

This might seem like an easy way out, but it a foolproof way of getting more fans.  Facebook is very particular in the way they do advertising, and exposure, and it works the best to do it through them.  On Facebook, there is a button that says “Promote Page” and click on it.  It will pop up with a daily budget that you can select, depending on how much you would like to spend.  After selecting your budget, you can edit the duration of how many days you would like to run this ad.  You pay for it, then Facebook takes care of the rest, and the Facebook fans start to roll in.  Simple as that.

3 Ways to Give Your Clients a Holiday Treat!

The holiday season has arrived, and everyone is spreading the love and cheer.  Try not to forget to show your clients your appreciation for their business (and friendship) by doing something nice for them in exchange for coming to you with their trust.  So, for this holiday season, for the customers that have been giving so much support to your business, let’s give them something in return!

 1.     Send them a Holiday Greetings Card with a Twist

Why not buy a pack of holiday cards, or design and print a pack of holiday cards that have something to do with the type of business you have, and send them out to your clients.  You could go with your most frequent customers, or you could send them to all of them to try to get one-timers to come back.  Slip a coupon that is good for the next time they come in, and offer 10-15% off the service or product they buy with the presentation of the coupon.  This will guarantee that they come in, and it will generate more business for you. Just remember to put an expiration date on the offer!

 2.    Send a Newsletter or Social Media Announcement with a Gift

Take a moment out of your busy week, and write up a short message expressing your gratitude towards your customers, and give them a gift of an extra 10 minutes added onto their massage (or another service you provide) if they book it in between December 15, and January 10.  Of course you can mix and match to however you wish, and make it to your own liking.

 3.    Make a Gift-Basket Raffle

This is a quick and easy way to do something nice as a gift to your clients.  The only con is that there is only one gift basket to give away. In the gift basket, you should include a gift certificate, and products that you recommend or sell.  Announce it with a photo on your social media platforms, and tell your clients that if they come in for a massage from you in the months of December and January, you will give them two raffle tickets to enter for the gift basket.  One lucky winner will get the gift basket to take home!

It is a nice little group of forms that covers the basics for most bodywork businesses.  And while there is some redundancy in the forms, you can look at the various chart forms and pick the one that works best for your practice. That’s part of why we offered the range we did. 5 Mistakes to Avoid with your Massage Therapist Website

It is critical to any business today to have an online presence for its clients and consumers. Sadly time and time again,we see the same poor choices made in regards to website design. With the busy world we live in, your business cannot afford these mistakes.  What do I mean?

 

  • Make sure it works! Nothing is worse than having potential clients or your current clients click on your website only to be greeted with error messages. A subtler problem is to make sure the layout works as well. Nothing like links that have been pushed under images, or headers too small for all the information crammed in them so you lose navigation tabs. If your website does not work, these potential clients will think you do not work, which is the last impression you want to make on them.
  • Keep it simple! The home page, the first page your audience sees, should be to the point, and capture their attention. Seeing a wall of text has no appeal. On the flip side make sure you are saying something, and that it is relevant enough to make me want to read more. Your home page is your summary. All the details belong on the other pages.
  • Don’t confuse them! Make sure that your design is done so they know where to go. Replacing text links with pictures sounds like a cute idea, but makes it harder for potential clients to figure out where to go, which makes it more likely they will just leave the website. And make sure those text links make sense. Calling your “About Us” page “meditations “ does not give a clear idea about the intent of the link.

  • Less is more! You may think that having 14 different subpages after your home index is a good idea, but rarely will people read past the first 5 or 6, and if they don’t see what they need they try a different website.  Try to group different sections into categories so that your potential clients can find what they are interested in and not be overwhelmed.
  • Appearance matters! Not just the functionality discussed above, but also the look. You want to make sure your website isn’t outdated in appearance.  You want to make sure it is visually attractive and sets the tone and feel of what you want your practice to represent. If you cater to a younger crowd, make sure your website is appealing to them. If the corporate world is your target, then a more professional appearance.

 

And sadly, we came up with all of these suggestions simply by typing massage therapy into google and looking at therapist websites. All of these mistakes were present in live, functional websites. These websites will deter potential clients, because they don’t have the time to figure out how to work your malfunctioning website.  People are busy these days, which means you need to have a good website to grab their attention with a 4 second time span. The 5 Best Photo Sources for Massage Therapy Websites

 

So you are sitting there trying to decide which pictures to use for your website. And the ones you took from your phone look a little blurry, your buddy got this great shot of the building it also got one of your clients who wants to be anonymous in it, and professional photographers are not cheap. So what’s a poor massage therapist (or physical therapist, or any body worker for that matter) supposed to do?

 

Well it may shock you to know that there are some really good free, or nearly free, photos out there if you know where, and how, to look for them. So without further ado…

 

  • Bigstockphoto.com This website has a featured free image every day. Not that useful. But they do have inexpensive, quality photos to choose from, and more importantly, don’t require any fancy knowledge. Just buy a credit package, and depending on the size of the photo, it can cost between 1 and 6 credits. The really, super nice feature? I see a photo that is close to what I want but just not right.  Below that image will be related images. Sometimes from the same shoot and a different arrangement, or a similar layout from a different shoot, and suggested keywords to try and find exactly what you are looking for in a photo. So while there is a cost, it’s ease of use saves you so much time it’s almost negligible.
  • Rgbstock.com We can’t provide photos from this company, but you as the end user may search and add them to your website to your hearts content.  Registering is easy. You can use several different social website logins, or simply fill in 3 fields on the RGBstock. Simply start searching and downloading. When you look at a photo it gives you all the keywords that photo was tagged with so you have an idea of how to search to find more of them. Not quite as super easy to navigate like BigStock, but it is free for use.

  • Sxc.hu – Stock.XCHNG is another free photo website for you to look through to find just what you want. There is the simple search box on the top of the page and the ability to do an advanced search using multiple terms and looking in specific categories. Looking at a picture will also suggest similar pictures at the bottom and let you know what keywords were used for the photo. And what categories it was put in for helping to refine your searches. The layout is a little busy, and it takes some getting use to, but some really good tools if you want them.
  • Massagenerd.com This is an amazing resource. Not just for photos but that will be another post some day. You do have to give credit to Massagenerd.com when you use one of their pictures, and limit yourself to 5 of them on your website, but here you have a collection of massage photos by massage therapists. No need to search or wonder what they were thinking when they labeled that picture massage. Not my first choice only because you are limited to 5 photos and you do have to credit the photo. But a great resource nonetheless.
  • Morguefile.com This is our favorite free photo website. Simple, clean, and easy to use with great photos. Using multiple terms results in an advanced search for multiple keywords so I suggest simply using a single term for the most results.  Spa and massage are somewhat limited, but search for something like bamboo and the page just keeps going. Like the other general sites you have to do some digging to find the good massage photos you want, but I find it to be one of the easiest to use of the general sites that are free.

 

Check out the sites and see which one works best for you. Like any list this one is subjective to my preferences, but I think that all these websites have potential to help you find the best photo sources for your website.

Simple, Affordable Ways to Attract New Clients

To move things along a little bit faster, make an incentive for your current clients to refer you. Here’s an example, “Receive a complimentary massage after referring 2 clients to us.” You can bend this however you like to accommodate to your practice, of course.


Design a flyer and print out a handful of them. Every time you go to public facilities, make sure to leave some in a visible location. Ask your local businesses to help promote! Consider places that your potential clients would go and leave some around. Go to a high foot traffic area and hand them out yourself. This is a great way to raise awareness about your business locally.


We’ve all seen them at least once before. Those boxes that ask you to enter your info and submit your chance for something free. Most likely, you’ve even entered one yourself! Try setting up a few of these boxes in waiting areas of offices or places you think would generate a lot of attention. Offer to win a free 30-minute massage and consultation, and people will be drawn to enter. Everyone loves something FREE! If they don’t win, you will have their contact information to let them know about your referral program.


Other local businesses are your support team. They want to be able to help you get business to help their own. Get to know them, and offer them packages. Ask them if they can hand out coupons for your business, or if you could set up a display of flyers or of business cards. Many businesses will not have a problem with this helping your promote, especially if you’re willing to return the favor.
